Last month I injured my knee at gymnastics. I was doing a round-off back handspring and at the end, my knee began to straighten slowly and I felt a sharp pain. I have missed 2 competitions, and I am still not sure if I will be able to compete at the gymnastics state meet for this year.
I am starting to do beam and the bar routines already, but state is two weeks away and I am still not tumbling. I took one week off from training, after I got injured. Then, while I was still on crutches, I went back to gym and began to work on bars.
Before my injury bars was my worst event, but now because of my injury it has become my best. My beam has also improved and I have also been working on my mobility. I started training with my mom and dad almost right away, focusing on squat form, upper body training and abs.
Now’s it’s the 1st of April, I’ve started tumbling on the tramp and getting more into leaps and dance skills on the floor. I’m also lifting with weight, running and biking. There is still some pain so I’m trying to take it slow. As much as I want to be back at full routine in gymnastics and be able to compete at state, my dad keeps reminding me that it is more important to heal first so that I don’t have more problems later.
