Interview with Addison
Georgia: How does it feel to be a national champion?
Addison: It feels amazing to be a National Champion and it was my first year! My goal this year was to podium, and I did it!
Georgia: How did you get ready for Youth Nationals? Did you change your training at all, to get prepared?
Addison: To prepare for youth nationals, we increased my training from 2 to 3 days [a week] and completed a strength cycle. My coach was very adamant about not missing any lifts in the weeks leading up to Youth Nationals. He wanted me to be confident and mentally prepared for my lifts.
Georgia: I know you used to be a gymnast. How did you get into CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting?
Addison: My Uncle and Aunt own Blackfin Crossfit so I started crossfit kids at a young age. I think that by doing crossfit, it can prepare you for any sport you choose. Once I decided that gymnastics was not something that I absolutely loved, my crossfit kids coach encouraged me to try Olympic lifting. Once I started I was hooked!
Georgia: Do you have different coaches for Olympic and CrossFit?
Addison: Yes, I am coached by my Aunt Kara in Crossfit Kids and by my Cousin Tristan, and Uncle Marc in Olympic lifting. It’s a family thing!
Georgia: Do you have a favorite type of WOD or lift? If so, what is it?
Addison: I like to do wods that are like Fran, 21-15-9. My favorite lift is the Clean & Jerk.
Georgia: What is your favorite gym song to get you moving?
Addison: All the way up by Fat Joe & Remy Ma
Georgia: Do you have a favorite workout snack?
Addison: I like to eat the kids Cliff bars, the brownie one is my favorite. During meets, I like to have a few peanut M&M’s.
Georgia: What do you like to do when you’re not working out?
Addison: I enjoy swimming, riding my bike, jumping on my trampoline, making crafts, and watching tv.
Georgia: What is your favorite school subject?
Addison: My favorite is Math, but I also like Science and Social Studies.
Georgia: Who do you look up to the most and why?
Addison: I can’t pick just 1! Mattie Rogers – She is my favorite lifter. She is strong, beautiful, and funny! I also look up to my coach and cousin, Tristan Hoffmann. He is also a great lifter, crossfitter, and mentor to me.
Georgia: What are you goals for 2017?
Addison: My goals for this year are to qualify for youth nationals again, continue to be on the honor roll at school, and to do some school sports (volleyball, soccer, & crew).
